Health Canada is warning shoppers at Canadian Tire, Home Depot and other stores after certain products have been recalled due to injury hazards that have been identified.

The Canadian Tire recall involves the the Spalding Momentous EZ Portable Basketball Goal, which has a 50” or 54” acrylic clear backboard with a visible “H-frame” providing support behind the backboard, or a 54” acrylic clear backboard with aluminum trim, but no H-frame. The affected products are Model 6E1010 – 54”, Clear View w/ Arena Slam Rim, UPC# 6 89344 41397 6; Model 6E1011 – 54”, H Frame w/ Pro Slam Rim, UPC# 6 89344 41399 0, Model 6E1012 – 50”, H Frame w/ Slam Jam Rim, UPC # 6 89344 41369 9

The numbers 1010, 1011 or 1012 are printed to the right of the CAUTION statement on the front of the backboard.

Welds in the arm attaching the backboard to the pole may fail and cause the backboard to fall, posing an impact hazard, Health Canada said in its recall warning.

As of September 20, 2022, the company has received no reports of incidents or injury in Canada. In the United States, the company has received 2 reports of the backboard detaching, leading to injury, Health Canada said.

The company reported that 62 units of the affected product were sold in Canada and 3,200 were sold in the United States from March 2022 to April 2022 on Spalding.com and Amazon.com, in addition to Canadian Tire.

"Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled portable basketball goal and contact the company to arrange for a technician to remove the original arm and install a replacement arm," Health Canada said.

For more information, consumers can contact Spalding toll free at 1-800-284-8339 between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. CT Monday though Thursday, or visit the company website.

Another recall involves three models (Model DSH 700-X, serial number 77120xxxx – 77202xxxx; model DSH 900-X 16”, serial number 83120xxxx – 83202xxxx and model DSH-600-X, serial 58120xxxx – 58202xxxx) of Hilti DHS gas cut-off saws sold at Home Depot in Canada. Affected products may be identified by the model and serial number located on the rating plate.

The recalled product may cause an injury hazard, Health Canada said, as the washer on the screw that secures the blade does not meet company specifications as fragments of a broken washer may break away and fly off during operation.

As of August 24th, 2022 the company has received no report of incidents or injuries in Canada. The company reported that 105 units of the affected product were sold in Canada from July 2021 to February 2022.

"Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled Hilti DHS gas cut-off saw and contact Hilti to obtain a replacement screw/washer set," Health Canada said.

For more information, consumers can contact Hilti Corporation by telephone at 918-269-3286 between 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. EST Monday through Friday or by email at tish.holmes@hilti.com.

Excluded from the recall are units with green dots on the carton near the UPC code, units with a green dot on the nameplate, or saws with a black dot on the arm adjacent to the rear guard.

The rear guard assembly can break or detach, posing a "laceration hazard" to the user, Health Canada said.

As of June 13, 2022, the company has received one report of a laceration injury in Canada. In the United States, the company has received reports of 8 laceration injuries. The company has received a total of 571 incident reports of the rear guard assembly breaking or detaching, Health Canada said.

"Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled product and contact Stanley Black & Decker Canada Corporation for a replacement rear guard assembly kit or go to a DEWALT Service Center for a free repair," Health Canada said in its recall warning.

For more information, consumers can contact Stanley Black & Decker Canada by telephone at 1-800-990-6421 or online at https://www.dewalt.ca/miter-saw-recall.

The company reported that 118,583 units of the affected product were sold in Canada and 1,364,340 were sold in the United States from April 2019 to May 2022.

Home Depot, Lowe's and RONA have confirmed the saws were carried at said stores but have been removed from sale.

Canadian Tire spokesperson Harriet Renshaw confirmed the products were sold at Canadian Tire and have been removed from shelves and CanadianTire.ca.
